One of the perks of being in college is that school starts so late that we still have half week of summer left. Waste not, want not. Kaitlin, my roommate Samantha, and I visited Antelope Island for the first time.
Kaitlin and Samantha took a break after hiking five minutes in the hot sun. Too bad the bench was so small.
Kaitlin took a picture of me looking like a nerd. But my favorite part of the adventure was definitely the rocks (as always!) I found it so interesting that there was this beautiful metamorphic rock with intense foliated bands in the midst of these conglomerates.
A REAL buffalo! Living seven miles from civilization.
Those little brown dots are some more of the buffaloes (yes it's a real word). Such a cute family! The white stuff is like a billion pounds of salt.
We drove a few miles down the island and found a place called "Fielding Garr Ranch" which was started by our Mormon church. Now it's a museum with flushing toilets (luckily).
I tried to picture myself teaching my students here. Glad that's not what classrooms look like today, or else I wouldn't last as a teacher for very long!
The grain silo was full of birds and bats. Did you know if silos aren't properly ventilated, they can spontaneously combust?
The bunk house had only one tenant.
We also made a friend in the cellar. Samantha freaked out when she saw the snakes!
This makes college laundry facilities actually look...nice.
The three of us went swimming in the Great Salt Lake. We swallowed enough brine flies to get our protein intake for the day.
On the bright side, it was super easy to float in this water. And we got hot tans.
At the ranch, we got to show off our rodeo queen skills. I have never tried to lasso anything, and I don't think I have a desire to try it again.
Now it's time for the link-up! If you don't remember the rules, click HERE. If you want to read the inspiration behind it, click HERE. Basically, just link a post about something fun you tried this week. Doing something new, old, fun, adventurous, I want to hear about it. Then grab the button and put it on your post! Thanks for joining the party!
